Donor's Rights

Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good.  To ensure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general community, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in Family Connections fund development practices, Family Connections declares that all donors have these rights:
  1. To be informed of Family Connections’ mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.

  2. To be informed, promptly upon request, of the names of those serving on Family Connections’ Board of Directors, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities.

  3. To receive, promptly upon request, a copy of Family Connections’ Ethical Fund Development and Financial Accountability Code.

  4. To have access to Family Connections most recent annual report and financial statements as approved by the board.

  5. To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.

  6. To receive appropriate acknowledgement and recognition, whether the gift is monetary or non-monetary (gifts-in-kind).

  7. To be assured that information about their donation is handled with respect, and that donor records maintained by Family Connections will be kept confidential to the greatest extent possible.

  8. To have access to their own donor record and to challenge its accuracy.

  9. To expect that all relationships with Family Connections’ fund development personnel will be professional in nature and to be informed if those personnel are volunteers, employees of the organization, or hired fundraising professionals.

  10. To have their request for anonymity be respected.

  11. To be assured that Family Connections will promptly respond to a complaint by a donor or prospective donor about any matter that is addressed in this Donor’s Rights document.

  12. To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers.
